What you'll do

We will begin at the cities medieval gate, The Koppelpoort. Here guests will learn about the city's history from the Ice Age to the 1600's. Here guests will also learn about different industries and how they played a role in the creation of the city as well as the big names that got the city rolling.
From there we will walk through the city to at least 11 other landmarks and spots where images and stories will be shared to give the guests an immersive experience in the timeline of Amersfoort. Many of the stops will consist of various stories and facts that reveal specific moments in the cities development such as the transition from a fishing village to an outpost, plague epidemics, The Golden Age, civil war, and modernization.

I'm a professional artist/teacher of fine arts and a local to the Amersfoort area. I'm originally from the U.S. and have a deep appreciation and interest for Amersfoort's culture and history. I've lived nearby for 10 years and in that time have collected facts and stories and have conducted independent research to construct a unique tour of the medieval center so that guests walk away with a rich experience and understanding of this great city and surrounding area.

Where you'll be

We'll start at the medieval Koppelpoort, one of the oldest monuments in the city. From here we will walk along the many canals to learn how beer, tobacco, and textiles played a huge role in the development of Amersfoort. We'll visit The Hof to learn about the origins of the city as well as The Lieve Vrouwen Plein to learn of the Miracle of Amersfoort. Concluding with the Amersfoortse Kei, and the ruins of the city wall.

Amersfoort is a small city near Amsterdam. It is well connected with many trains per day, and the trip is only half an hour. The tour is super-interesting. The city is well preserved, and Thomas have a good script to tell you the story of the city and, through it, the history of the Netherlands. Thomas even reviewed our profiles to give us relevant information according to our interests. It is super recommended and the rain is no problem.

Amersfoort is just 34 minutes by train from Amsterdam, and the trip is very pleasant. The experience allows you to know the history of the city, appreciate its architecture and all the special details that make it unique. Thomas uses good and pertinent supporting material and is prepared for the rain and to hidrate you. I recommend this experience to every medieval enthusiast.

Amersfoort is a beautiful town and has so much worth seeing, and having a tour guide with so much information to share made it even better. I left with lots of plans for my next visit!
