What you'll do

13 March 2020: The Aerial Tram is closed to the public due to the pandemic beginning Monday the 16th of March. We will be offering an alternative sunrise tour beginning Wednesday the 18th of March. We expect to be able to honor bookings again in late April or May. Contact me with questions!

Get a beauty-filled start to your day with a ride on the Portland Aerial Tram!
The early experience guest gets the spectacular views. At the start time (6:30 am weekdays, later on Saturdays due to limited hours for the tram. We can't operate Sundays when the tram is closed), we’ll pick you up in central downtown Portland in one of our lux Mercedes Sprinter vans, and drive up city's western ridgeline, through the city's cultural district and one of the state's biggest university campuses. At OHSU, we’ll walk with you through the building, describing its puzzle-like structure and insider secrets, and to the Aerial Tram. We’ll serve you craft roasted coffee and some of Portland’s best doughnuts with a view of the first morning light, then we’ll ride this feat of Swiss engineering as the early sun reveals the city’s glowing colors.

After this expansive journey, we'll drop you off back downtown at Director's Park.

Our mission is, not just to show you the best way to start one day in Portland, but also to help you prioritize your time. Think of us as concierges to your Portland experience!

I'm Sarah Gilbert, co-founder of Around Portland Tours, and together with partners and guides Edwin, Lizzy, and Jeri will host the experiences.

As a published, award-winning writer and storyteller, I put a priority on partnering with other artists to guide these experiences. I also am drawn to genuine, authentic people who make charming guides. With our combined decades of guiding, we set ourselves apart by going to places others pass by, and creating experiences that get beneath the surface, exploring not just the “what” but the “why.” (And never forgetting sweet treats.)

When we create an experience, it is one we develop out of places we know intimately and love so well we are bursting to share them; and includes elements that together make up not just the story of Portland, but the beauty, delight, passion and weirdness we love.

Where you'll be

We’ll meet you at Director Park in our Sprinter van under the Guild Theater Sign on SW Park Ave. From here we’ll give you the most magnificent views of Portland to start your day. At OHSU, we'll eat doughnuts, drink coffee, and look at the spectacular view (showing you our favorite photo spots) before boarding the Portland Aerial Tram for the ride to the South Waterfront, where we'll see even more at the Robertson Life Sciences Center.

Such a wonderful experience! The original plans hit some roadblocks due to a temporary public closure, but they made superb accommodations and the alternative tour was just as (if not more) special!

My partner and I happened to do this tour while it was snowing. Made the view beautiful, it was a great experience, very knowledgeable guides.

I am not an early bird, but I booked this last minute because I was awake at the time. I was going to be in Portland for a short period of time, and I wanted to learn a little bit about Portland. I enjoyed the donuts, coffee, and hearing about the history of the buildings. Sarah and the other guide were friendly, genuine, and easy going people, which set a positive tone for the entire experience! Bring gloves and an umbrella, because it might be cold and rainy!
