What you'll do

The hike follows one of the last remaining stretches of undeveloped coastline on the South Shore—an area rich in natural beauty and cultural history.

This gentle stroll will take us along the edge of lithified limestone cliffs, jaggedly overhung in impossibly thin slivers over the ocean. Feel the power of the ocean and smell the salt air as crashing waves explode below you. The compacting of air within the cliffs creates a special surprise. At a remote promontory, we will see impressive views in all directions.

Our visit will include nearby Makauwahi Cave Reserve—Hawaii's largest limestone cave and richest fossil site. There, we will have the option to visit with giant land tortoises that are doing their part to help restore native plants. 15% of each tour will be donated to the cave reserve.

A minimum booking number of 2 hikers is required for us to run this tour.

Aloha, I'm the founder of Kauaʻi Hiking Tours. I've been enjoying island life for the past 10 years, including time spent on Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii Island. In that time, I've hiked every trail Kauai has to offer, and gone on many neighbor-island adventures. In total, I've been guiding for nearly 20 years throughout much of the United States and internationally.

I co-host with Chris, Jess, and Wes who are also super passionate about Kauai, canyoneering, and hiking. We look forward to surprising you with some fresh local fruit and maybe even opening a coconut for you.

I bought this experience as a gift for my parents during their vacation, and they really loved it! They have been to this island many times, and had never seen this area. They said Jeremiah was a fantastic host. He was also easy for me to help coordinate with to keep the gift a surprise. Thank you!

Chris (our host for the hike) was amazing. He has been a Kauai local for several years and knows all the great spots. He was cheerful, funny and very helpful. He knew the route well and was explaining to us about the local Flora and Fauna. Chris even had fresh coconuts for us at the end of the hike ! I highly recommend taking this experience.

Jeremiah led us on some walks through exquisite places we would never have found on our own. The far reaches of the Makawehi lithified cliffs are incredibly beautiful and unusual. Spots were the ocean waves push air up through cracks in the rock to create a blowhole in the ground are fascinating and unique. Jeremiah was also very knowledgeable about local culture and history, which added another wonderful dimension to our walking tour.

Chris was amazing. As an older couple we were able to stop as needed for pics or a breather. Took us on trails but saw few other people. He showed us points of interest we would not have found on our own. Spectacular natural views were around every corner. With a surprising coconut drink at the end! Would highly recommend... We had the privilege of hiking with Meghan down near Poipu. She was knowledgeable of the area, island, flora and fauna, and culture. She answered any of our questions throughout the trip. It was an incredible experience with her perspective on the area and to show us places we wouldn't have found on our own. We would definitely recommend the hike for anyone of all ages.

Jeremiah is a cool dude, and really knows his stuff. The location is something I wouldn't have found on my own, and appreciated his commentary doing the way.
