What you'll do

We'll start by gathering in the pole barn at Black Feather Farm. While you're sipping apple cider and eating cookies, your host, Mary will outline the history of Black Feather Farm and why it is a National Historic Site dating back to the Shawnee Indians. Mary will tell stories about some very special horses. In the pole barn you will be mesmerized by numerous antiques, a 1915 Ford, horse carriages, saddles, and bridles. This is the perfect setting for family photos. After that we will see the original chicken coop and hear about the secrets it holds. We will then enter the historic barn where Mary will explain demonstrate how chores were done 100 years ago before we had electricity. We top off this special experience by meeting Mary's magical horses: Moonlight, Angel, Diedra and Divine. This is truly a celestial encounter. Your host Mary will show you how to safely make friends with a horse. You will feel totally immersed in you rich rural and Native American heritage

Learn more about Mary

Mary

I grew up on Black Feather Farm, a working horse farm, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I love to show people what it was like to live on a farm 100 years ago. I do chores without electricity . The farm was previously owned by the Shawnee Native Americans. In doing research on the farm, I discovered that I instinctively do many of the same things that the Shawnees enjoyed doing with their horses such as decoratating them, dressing them up, showing them off and playing games with them. As a psychologist and coach I have learned how grounding and healing it is to take a step back in time and revel in the companionship of horses. There is nothing more empowering that a horse. I have created a display of antiques and activities with horses that will save us from the danger of losing these priceless experiences
