What you'll do

The first thing you need to know is: You don't need any drawing experience! I draw Rotterdam is suitable for every drawing level. I will help you. I will give advice and show easy and somewhat more difficult options.

We walk approximately 2.5 kilometers in the center of Rotterdam. We pass several beautiful places to draw your own personal large "Greetings from Rotterdam postcard".

Discover the city in a different way. Not just wandering around, but stopping to draw what you see. A relaxed experience in a lively city.

We start with a Polaroid of yours and place it in the middle of a sheet of A4 size paper. Around the Polaroid we draw typical Rotterdam items such as: the Markthal, cube houses, Laurenskerk, statue of Marten Toonder, bicycles and decorative elements from the city and nature. We draw in a simple and fast way. I give advice for "Handlettering" (writing in a nice way).

Ultimately you have your own handmade "Greetings from Rotterdam postcard". You can take a photo and post it on social media, you can sent it to friends or family or bring it back home as a reminder of your afternoon drawing in Rotterdam.

With great pleasure I have been living in Rotterdam for more than 20 years. I love Rotterdam! I want to show you this beautiful and fun city by drawing well-known (and less well-known) subjects from it. I studied graphic design in Rotterdam and drawing at the art academy in Antwerp. I am a city sketcher of Rotterdam (@stadstekenaar010). I have been drawing and designing all my life and have been illustrating for more than 10 years. I also have experience with organising events and giving tours. Finally, I love nature and architecture.

I would highly recommend this activity. It was an amazing experience for me. I feel so much more connected with the city, Rotterdam. I was not expecting at all that I could draw, Jeffrey make it easy for everybody to follow the drawing, he choose nice locations which represent Rotterdam, he told stories about the spots too. So it was really a cultural activities to know more about Rotterdam history and other stories behind it. Other people who joined were also very friendly, it was amazing experience for me. Jeffrey also paid attention to little detail like giving us the stroopwafel and dutch candies, so I can taste a bit of dutch flavor. I really love it and this is one of the most amazing thing I did in Rotterdam. He made also very nice sequence of the tour and the timing is great! Time flew so quick and I was so into drawing while I never really draw before. He is also a great painter himself, so he made beautiful painting too, but if you join this event, you will also feel good about yourself because you discover that you can also draw :)

What a nice experience! A joyful and well spend afternoon in downtown Rotterdam. Jeffrey was very knowledgeable and had lots of patience with all the painters. We had among our group beginners and more experienced painters and everybody had a great time. Highly recommended for young and old. Thanks so much and we have nice memories.

If you have never dared to sketch a view of a city or if you like sketching and want to be shown some interesting views of a new place then Jeffrey's city sketching experience is wonderful. He provides all the materials, pencil, paper, drawing board, a tote bag, snacks and a polaroid photo and he speaks flawless English. In each location he gives lots of guidance for the beginner and interesting insights from a skilled illustrator for everyone. Jeffrey helps to make you think like an artist and shows you how to progress your sketching in your own style while sharing his fondness of Rotterdam's architecture. We were a family of five and everyone produced a composition of five sketches. It was a lovely afternoon with a kind and generous teacher in the centre of Rotterdam and an unexpected bonus to be given a guided tour of an exhibition of his work after the experience. Jeffrey took care to ensure we were safely complying with COVID-19 protocols and even offered to provide a mask if we had forgotten ours. We left with the confidence and enthusiasm to try to repeat the experience by ourselves two days later. Great fun.
