What you'll do

We'll start at our share house, grab our bikes, and go for a fun ride to collect ingredients. We'll visit local shops, gather our items, chat with the store owners, and slowly work up an appetite as we cruise the streets.

Examples of the stores we'll visit include a fish market that stocks fresh fish from Tsukiji market, a 100-year-old tofu shop, and a cocktail bar that sells organic vegetables.

Then we'll head back to the share house where the real fun will begin. We'll chat and laugh as we prepare and cook the meal, and then dine the night away.

I believe that one of the best ways to learn about local cultures is through food. Let me show you what life is like in Zoshigaya!
Other things to note
Wear season-appropriate clothing and footwear. You can put your bags in our share house.

Sometimes, my housemates join the dinner and chat with. In that case, I pay for the ingredients for them.

My three years in Tokushima made me realize the joy of spending time and living with visitors to Japan. Living with international people gave me the opportunity to experience different cultures, which was more fun than I expected.

I came to Tokyo to create opportunities for Japanese and foreigners to connect with one another. One such platform is the share house—a living space my brother and I, together with foreigners, started in order to spend simple daily life in our new neighborhood and to enjoy fresh cultural exchanges.

Where you'll be

Zoshigaya is located just one train ride away from Ikebukuro Station, yet it's a world apart. It is a beautiful area awash with traditional culture.

We'll start at our share house and ride through the Zoshigaya neighborhood on our bikes. After we've collected our ingredients, we will head back to the house and cook the meal-and then dine the night away.

My daughter and I had so much fun with Tomo and his housemate Tanya. The bike ride was a fantastic way to see an area that we otherwise never would have discovered. Tomo took us to numerous special and interesting spots. Afterward, back at his shared house we prepared a delicious meal. The food was casual and fresh and super yummy. We left with some interesting ideas and and appreciation for Tomo's passion. Tomo himself is a super nice guy with a great energy. It was lots of fun to spend 4 hours with him. This was really a highlight! We would highly recommend this experience.

Tomonori was an excellent host. He is very accommodating. His roommate and wife joined us for dinner and they were so generous and kind. Oh and the food was delicious! The bike riding is in a calmer part of town so it’s easy to get used to and isn’t overwhelming. Tomonori definitely gave us a memorable experience that we could not have gotten else where. Definitely recommending to friends

Tomonori offered a great experience. I had a personal tour with him around Ikebukuro where he showed me some interesting local sites and small shops and grocers. It felt great to see some of the back streets and then get to prepare a meal with the fresh ingredients we just bought. At the end of the meal, he gave the recipe for two meals.

Tomo was an amazing host. I’d definitely recommend making the time for this unique and authentic Japanese experience. I wanted to “live like a local” and Tomo offered just that. An easy bike ride (in the rain), met with local shop owners, cooked with his friendly housemates (as I was a solo traveler) and ate a really delicious hot pot meal. As many have said, this was my favorite experience during my time in Tokyo.

This is something I have never tried before. Eventhough I am Korean having similar culture, it was a great chance to look inside Japan. I hightly recommend this tour to even Korean. It is better than looking around Shijuko or Shiboya.

This was my first time using Airbnb experiences and Tomo did not disappoint! He gave us clear directions to his home in Japan, had bikes ready to go for us to ride, maps of his city and major touring areas, as well as a selection of menus to choose what to cook from. All his recipes were amazing sounding! Cooking was super fun and delicious! Learning how to cook a homecooked Japanese meal was one of the highlights of my time in Japan. You are all in for a treat if you choose this adventure with Tomo. His english is perfect so you'll also get to have some fun conversations.
