Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico

Experience hosted by Ivan

3 hours
Includes tickets, equipment
Up to 6 people

What you'll do

This will be a beatiful and safe bike ride to see the massive and ancient "El Tule" tree, which is famous for being the widest tree in the world. We´ll also see part of the town of "Santa Maria del Tule", its church and its market.

We'll meet in downtown Oaxaca. Then, once we are geared up with helmets and our bikes, we´ll begin our journey to El Arbol del Tule (45 min. bicycle ride from downtown [10 km or 6 miles one way]).

We'll ride on a nice bike lane covered with tree shades for the most part. It's mostly flat. During our ride, you'll get to see the outskirts of the city, beautiful hills, and a few crop fields.

Once we arrive to Santa Maria del Tule, we'll go directly to see El Tule tree, the colorful church and the beautiful lush gardens. We'll spend about 30 min. here (if you need more time that's fine).

Then, we'll go to the handicrafts market and the food market where we'll spend around 30 min. checking out the market shops, going to the restroom, and getting something to eat.

We'll start our ride back to Oaxaca.

I'm passionate for the outdoors. I love biking and enjoy meeting new people while promoting sustainable ecotourism in Oaxaca. I love taking visitors on this route because it is a unique way to experience and see the beautiful town of "Santa Maria del Tule" which is known for its massive and ancient tree "El Tule" and also to have an active day. My goal is to provide you with an unforgettable experience. I would love to share this experience with you.

I was born and raised in Oaxaca. I have lived abroad (in the USA) during my college years and I have also traveled to several countries. On my travels, I have experienced the need of local experts who can show you those "hidden gems", the sites that are off the beaten path in unique ways.

Where you'll be

The road we'll take is mainly used by locals so you'll get to see more about authentic Oaxaca and the outskirts of the city.

El Tule tree is located inside a gated churchyard in the picturesque town of Santa Maria del Tule. It is the widest tree in the world. It's 40 meters in height, 58 meters in circumference, and about 2,000 years old.

The Baroque-style church is called Templo de Santa María de la Asunción and dates from the 18th century.

Great to have a small group bike ride to the tree instead of huge tour bus experience. The ride was also a great way to start the day and Ivan was a thoughtful and responsible leader. A wonderful experience.

Really great activity! Enjoyed getting on the bikes on a crisp morning and getting out of the city for some exercise. I am about 5 months pregnant and felt the activity was safe and not too strenuous. Highly recommend if you enjoy outdoor activities.

Ivan is a great host and provides nice bikes that are in great condition for this experience. The ride is fairly easy in most parts, but there are a few places with traffic.

The tour was amazing! Ivan is a great guide! He is very knowledgeable about the area and he gave a lot of interesting facts about the history. It was a really fun bike ride too, with lots of beautiful views and sights to see. Ivan was very caring and was very attentive to making sure we were all doing okay on the ride. The tree was uncredible and the town and the market very charming, with delicious food! Highly recommend this tour!

Ivan is awesome. He was great with time and super supportive to some of us who were not active bikers. The tree is huge and spectacular. Ivan explains the history of the tree which I found interesting. The food at the market is cheap and great. I got very sick during the experience and couldn't finish, and Ivan was gracious enough to flag down a taxi for me and cycle my bike back to the start. I'm very grateful and I definitely recommend
