What you'll do
Let’s explore, exercise, play, and discover the Sonoran Desert on South Mountain.
• Exercise: We’ll hike 1.5 miles round trip and gain 70 feet of elevation as we hike along Pima West Loop, Beverly Canyon, and Pima Wash trails.
• Explore: Get up close and personal with the giant Saguaro cacti and the jumping Cholla; learn about the insects and animals unique to the Sonoran Desert.
• Play: Along the way we’ll climb rocks made from magma and challenge ourselves to reach the summit (our highest point).
• Discover: We’ll see petroglyphys made by the Hohokam.
Finally we’ll finish our hike with some stretches as a reward for our hard work.

I am a trail-conquering, Certified Personal Trainer and U.S. Navy veteran who loves to sweat in the sun. I started hiking at age 8 in the Colorado Desert of Southern California and haven’t stopped since. Over the years I’ve hiked many miles, honing my hiking skills and becoming an expert at enjoying the natural world. Now I’d like to share the experience with you. *CPR and First Aid Certified

Where you'll be
South Mountain Park and Preserve. At more than 16,000 acres, South Mountain is one of the largest municipally managed parks in the nation and consists of three mountain ranges - the Ma Ha Tauk, Gila and Guadalupe. The park boasts more than 51 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking.
