What you'll do

We will meet at the Chimney Rock parking lot, a jump off point for several exciting guided activities. Depending on your interest and your desired physical activity level we have a choice of hiking along a beautiful trail in search of California Gray Whales (seasonal) and feeding humpback whales, all while enjoying the stunning vistas . Learning about the natural history of these amazing cetaceans is always exciting and awe inspiring. For a shorter walk we can visit the elephant seal overlook where depending on the time of year we will be able to observe several generations of Elephant Seals in their colony. While watching females feed their pups and males defending their territory, you will also learn fascinating facts about the physical adaptations that allow these animals to survive life in the deep ocean. Another fabulous spot close by will give you the opportunity to see Elephant Seals close up. This experience can be varied depending on your interests. Another option is to meet at a place nearby to get a good view of the magnificent Tule Elk, which are endemic to California and were introduced to Point Reyes in 1978. Depending the season we might see males fighting for territory to establish their harem, as well as females with their young.
