Graham Blackburn was born and educated in London, England, where he was apprenticed under the noted Hampstead cabinetmaker, Hugh Harris.
His first book, Illustrated Housebuilding, was published in 1974. He has also served as Contributing Editor to Fine Woodworking (1985–1999), and Popular Woodworking (1987–1996), and as Editor-in-Chief of Woodwork Magazine (1991–1994). Graham was great! It was very enjoyable learning and crafting with him as we spent time on the many tools and styles of woodworking. Graham is extremely knowledgeable about the history, rationale, and application of these tools and gave me lots of good ideas for my future projects and skills that I can work on. Would highly recommend to anyone interesting in the craft or even just looking to work with their hands.

Truly enjoyed spending the morning with Graham learning some basics about the craft of woodworking. He is so knowledgeable about his craft and was happy to share his lifetime of experiences with us. we learned so much in the time we had together and can’t wait to learn more!

To say that we enjoyed our experience with Graham would be an incredible understatement. He was kind and patient - obviously a master at woodworking but a very skilled teacher as well. Our session flew by as he taught us about hand tools and gave us the chance to try them. On top of that, Graham was particularly easy to talk to and told us his story - and listened to ours. It was a memorable day to say the least. We felt grateful to learn from him.

Graham is as expert woodworker as he is a teacher. The class isn’t too advanced or anything (though we’re beginners so people with more experience can probably engage more deeply) and was therefore super accessible. And so interesting! The whole workshop was so alive and tactile and every tool and implement had a story. Even doing the simple stuff like learning the proper way to saw a piece of wood was thrilling. Graham clearly has the robust knowledge that comes with a mastery of a subject, and we were equally as happy to hear him talk as we were to plane a block of wood. We immediately went out to try and find our own antique hand tools. Absolutely would recommend.

Graham is the kindest, patient, and super knowledgeable. You can feel that he is passionate about the topic and cares about you having a great experience, tailoring the content to you. We knew the answer for each one of my questions, wrote several books about it, and was quite thoughtful in every piece of feedback. Thank you!

Graham was super knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. I personally was not sure if how I would feel about it but I absolutely loved it. He worked with the lack of knowledge that we had and went into detail for all the questions that we had. Would definitely recommend this experience. You will feel accomplished after.
