What you'll do

The Viñales Valley is famous worldwide for cultivating tobacco using traditional methods. The tobacco plantations are smaller in scale, and mainly family-owned businesses. They use a sun-grown tobacco method. We will visit a farmer's property to learn about the tobacco process from the very beginning, from the seedbed to the plantations to the drying barn. When in season, it is possible to see workers harvesting or sewing leaves to the poles inside the barn. Then, we will visit the place where tobacco leaves are sorted and stripped. All of the leaves harvested and treated at the farm will begin their manufacturing process here. You'll get the chance to roll and taste a handmade cigar, too.

We are Daily, Ruben, and Duarte, and we grew up in the Pinar del Río province, running through tobacco fields, filled with the aroma of fermented leaves and our grandparents' handmade cigars. We even spent time helping local farmers plant and harvest their tobacco. At university we trained in foreign languages and nature guide careers. Today, we work for the Viñales Valley World Heritage Site.

I loved this walking tour, through the valley, which included everything from bird watching to a visit to a tobacco farm. I learned about the history of the region and the artisanal tobacco industry. I would highly reccomend this experience.

This tour was really amazing. Our guide, Duarte, offered incredible insight into the coffee and tobacco process, and also more generally about his life and experiences in Cuba. He was a great person to spend time with and made it an incredible experience

We had a wonderful tour to the tobacco plantations with our guide Pedro. Daily arranged this tour flexibly according to our schedule. Pedro was very informative and knowledgeable about nature and tobacco production. We visited a local tobacco farmer's place and he taught us how to roll cigars. It was fun and a very special experience. We highly recommend this tour!

This was not only a tobacco experience, we've learnt so much more about Cuba and the beautiful Vinales valley. It was a beautiful day walking around little farms with a lovely and knowledgable tour guide. We had a chance to make our own cigars in a farm, learn about farm production but we were also taken into a cigar factory to see the other tobacco production in Cuba. I can highly recommend this experience.
