What we’ll do

You'll get a hands-on introduction to Japanese flower arranging, using seasonal branches and flowers to create beautiful compositions, as well as an overview of the materials/tools necessary for ikebana. To start off, I'll serve you green tea and a sweet while we chat about the history of ikebana (originating 500 years ago right here in Kyoto!) and its evolution into a contemporary art form. …

Where you'll be

We'll be in the cafe-bar at Kinse Ryokan, a unique building with more than 200 years of history. The neighborhood is a former geisha district and as you arrange flowers you'll be surrounded by the room's parquet floors and elaborate stained glass featuring peonies, pheasants, and butterflies.
