What you'll do

Enjoy an in-depth look of Waimea Canyon and the Nāpali Coast from the unique vantage points of Waimea Canyon & Kōkeʻe SP. Which trail(s) we hike will depend on conditions that day and the ability of the group. Hiking distances range from 2 - 9 miles RT with up to 1,600 feet in elevation gain. Most trails will be narrow out & back ridges. They can be muddy, slippery and strenuous - but we will be amply rewarded with stunning views of Waimea Canyon and the Nāpali Coast!

We will meet in historic "Hanapepe Town". From there you can hop in our SUV (1 - 4 people) and/or caravan West with us in your rental towards Waimea Canyon. This scenic drive will take about 1 hour each way - travelling across the center of the island and winding along the rim of Waimea Canyon where we will make a couple of quick stops at the choicest overlooks. Rainbow-colored canyon walls and cool mountain air create an otherworldly ambiance that's unlike anything you've experienced.

After taking in the canyon views we will continue driving North until we reach one of the trailheads above the Nāpali Coast for our Ultimate Cliff Top Hike. We will return the way we came, stopping for more as time & energy permits.

Aloha, I'm the founder of Kauaʻi Hiking Tours. I've been enjoying island life for the past 10 years, including time spent on Oʻahu, Maui and Hawaiʻi Island. In that time I've hiked every trail Kauai has to offer and gone on many "neighbor island" adventures! In total I've been guiding for nearly 20 years throughout much of the United States and internationally.

I co-host with Chris, Wes, and Jess who are also super passionate about Kauaʻi, canyoneering, and hiking. We look forward to surprising you with some fresh local fruit and maybe even opening a coconut for you!

Where you'll be

We will meet at Little Fish Coffee in historic Hanapepe. Arrive early for a coffee, pastry, smoothie, and/or acai bowl. You can also order a sadwhich to go, wrapped in foil, for lunch.

From there we will head West to "Waimea Town", where we begin our climb North - winding along the rim of Waimea Canyon before arriving in Kōkeʻe SP where we our hike begins - culminating in dramatic views of the Nāpali Coast from over 4k feet above.

Absolutely loved the hike with Jeremiah. He took us to places, we would have never found without him. We were a mixed group and he made us all feel very welcome and adjusted the hike to everyone’s abilities. Great experience off the beaten path, but also with great photo spots and views. If you have the chance, hike with him, you won‘t regret it.

Incredible Hike! We started off our day with Chris bright and early and he tailored the hike to our fitness. We were sad about missing out on passes for the Napali coast but this more than made up for it. Chris was friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging when things got tough. He knew the trail really well and was great at answering questions and giving us tips for the rest of the trip. The views were breathtaking and we even spotted a few whales! Highly recommended.

We had a lovely experience with our guide, Chris. We were weary of the hiking conditions due to flooding and power outages the night before, but we felt at ease with Chris. He used his local knowledge of the weather patterns to decide where and when to guide us to not 1, but 2 amazing sites, where the weather cleared for gorgeous scenery and photo opportunities. He was courteous, kind and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this experience!!

Jeremiah is a great person and wonderful guide. His insight on local customs and legends, and on the diverse wildlife in Kauai, really enhanced the experience. We hiked to places we would have never found on our own, and that made the experience worth every penny. If you’re debating whether to try a hike on your own or go with Jeremiah, definitely choose the latter. Even experienced hikers will benefit from his local knowledge, particularly in a place like Kauai where the well known trails can be crowded with tourists. It’s also a great idea to take this hike early in your trip, and then he will give you tips and tricks for your later solo adventures. Add to that his easygoing demeanor, and attention to individual ability and safety, and you have a really special experience. Jeremiah was also great at communication before and after the tour - highly recommend going to his website directly to correspond with him. All in all, a wonderful experience you won’t regret. Highly recommend Kauai Hiking Tours.

Jeremiah was great! We were the only people on the tour for that morning, and it felt very special. He was able to personalize the tour based on our experience and what we were looking for. It’s hard to go wrong on Kaua’i, but Jeremiah helped us get a deeper understanding of the ecology of the island and we found some spots that were peaceful and near-silent (save for the helicopter tours). I’d do another tour with his company again - highly recommend.
