About your host, Nina
I am the Volunteer Coordinator at Kitchens for Good and a San Diego native. I have been working in the nonprofit sector for 5 years, specializing in food insecurity, LGBTQ, environmental, and homelessness issues. San Diego is an extraordinary city full of diversity and innovation; Kitchens for Good's triple bottom line supporting the local economy, food system, and environment exemplifies this.
What we’ll do
Master the kitchen and learn to cook while helping a great local cause! We will be working as a team to cook 100+ healthy meals for local hunger relief nonprofits. Guests will learn to chop, season, sauté, roast, and more! Our process will include the entire meal production process, from washing the produce to packaging the meals. Guests ages 12 and up can attend.
Notes
Strive to eat a meal before the session. Bring a reusable water bottle if you have one. Closed-toe, non-slip shoes are required and long hair must be pulled back. Aprons and hairnets will be provided.
Where we’ll be
Our cooking session will occur in our industrial kitchen, the home of our renowned culinary job training program and catering company. Kitchens for Good's facility is located within the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation in Lincoln Park, San Diego.
