What you'll do

After meeting at Ecusta Brewing in Pisgah Forest, you'll follow me for a 15 minute drive to the trailhead. Depending on the group size, we could carpool. From there we will depart on a 5.5-mile run to a slickrock overlook with epic views of the Davidson River and other nearby peaks. Along the way, we'll explore fresh mountain streams, a variety of flora, and possibly even some wildlife. Dependent on your interest, I'll offer a history of the surrounding forest or even highlight some of my favorite hikes or breweries around town.

Much of the this run is along logging paths, a mixture of hard-packed dirt, roots, and occasionally rocks. There will be some steeper sections we will hike, but this experience is suitable for both novice and experienced trail runners - and is a favorite among locals. Countless intersecting trails, many unmarked, make this area difficult to navigate without a guide.

After we finish up, we often plan a quick stop to nearby Looking Glass Falls (5-minute detour) before heading back into town. Upon returning, join us at Ecusta Brewing and enjoy a cold beverage and seasonal food truck offerings at one of our favorite spots. Also included with each run is packaged beer from UpCountry Brewing (as long as you're at least 21).

My name is Brendon and I'm the owner of the first trail running tour company in Pisgah National Forest. Prior to living in Asheville full time, I traveled in a conversion van and explored far reaches of the country, running trails at every opportunity. From the Grand Canyon, to the Tetons, to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, I've explored more than most.

I chose to relocate to western North Carolina permanently for its extensive network of trail and network of National Forests. High mountain peaks, massive waterfalls, mountain streams, and unique flora were just a few of the reasons I enjoy trail running here more than anywhere else in the country. The region also boasts an incredibly diverse history, many trails even dating back to Native American origin. While I wasn't born here, there are few places in Pisgah I haven't been to.
