What you'll do

We will start with our walk to the Humantay lagoon at a height of 4,250 m.a.s.l., our ascent lasts approximately one hour and a half until we reach the Humantay lagoon. When you arrive at this beautiful Humantay lagoon, you will have all the necessary time to enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds us and also fill us with the energy that this snowy mountain of Salkantay has. Here our guide will give us a demonstration of the use of the coca leaf and a small offering to our apus (Mountains) that allowed us to arrive, which we will be part of it. After all this beautiful adventure we will descend to where our bus left us (Soraypampa). Continuing the trip we will go to Mollepata where we will enjoy our lunch and after that we will return to Cusco, arriving at 5:00 p.m.

I am an official guide in tourism, I graduated 5 years ago. I know about the history and culture of my wonderful city.

Being a tour guide was a challenge for each of us, it is one of the most rewarding jobs in the world. You make a living doing what others do on vacation: you meet lovely people from all over the world and you marvel at every place you visit, however often you are amazed and the magic that hides each place you discover every day.
That is why we would like to let you know about the wonders that exist. Dare it is time for an adventure.

I can highly recommend this experience to just about anyone traveling through Cusco! I’ve rated this experience 5 stars mostly based on the affordability. There is nothing that really stuck out to me as being uniquely great about this particular excursion, but there is also nothing majorly bad that comes to mind either... which is a win in my book! The general experience of seeing the lagoon was incredible. I absolute recommend it. Why else are you in Peru? The guided tour there itself, was very professional and easy. Couple things of note: 1. The hike is VERY tough, due to the altitude. My wife and I are pretty fit, and hike often, but we still opted to purchase horses (60Soles each + tip) and we were very thankful that we did. You do not need to know how to ride a horse, they will lead you. You need to walk about 15 minutes to rent horses, they will take you up about 95% of the way and you will still need to hike the last, short but very steep part. The horses also only bring you up, not down. 2. The van is significantly less comfortable than a taxi or luxury bus. Three hours each way can be painfully long! For the price, though, I can’t imagine anything better. 3. We did feel a bit rushed once we finally reached the lagoon. It’s understandable as it’s a loooong day for everyone, but we would have liked a little more time there. Especially since we had to wait our turn for pictures. 4. Food was pretty yummy, nothing out of the ordinary. Classic Peruvian cuisine. Light breakfast (egg, bread and tea) and hearty lunch (meat, potatoes, rice, salad, fries etc). 5. Having the tour guide there was nice, since they supplied the food stops, helped with details like the horses and knew some good spots for photos. That said, though, I definitely feel like we mostly paid for transportation and supervision (which is what I was expecting). The hike itself doesn’t really require a guide, nor is it hard to find the right spots for photos. If you speak even just a tiny bit of Spanish you’ll have no problem renting horses. Good luck finding a cheaper transportation + food option, though! Plus having the security of a local guide is always nice, in case something went wrong. 6. Language barrier: our guide did speak some English, but since I speak Spanish (and we were the only English speakers on the tour) the whole thing was in Spanish. I can’t give any incite on how it would be for someone who only speaks English.

Breakfast and lunch were both very good and filling. Karen organized the day, but the tour was led by someone else. He was very nice, but the tour was NOT in English like the airbnb page said. The tour itself was well done, and we actually took the horses up the trail for $25USD a piece (absolutely worth it given the extreme difficulty of the hike). The view was absolutely worth it though!

Great experience, can definitely recommend. Like many other reviewers write, I can confirm the hike up the mountain is tough and you should ideally have been at high altitude for a few days to get used to the low oxygen concentration. The very beautiful view is a great reward. The last part with the minibus seems rather dangerous, with little or no fortifications at the cliff and narrow roads.

Creo que deberían preocuparse más por la guía en la subida y bajada de la montaña ya que cada quien va por su cuenta.
