What you'll do

An extraordinary day out! a long forgotten place in the heart of Cairo and a really treasure is „The City of the Dead“. Never heard about this place? So if you are interested in the history of Egypt, away from the „Pharaonic crowd“ you are right here whats also called „Mameluk City“. The Mameluke reigned in the 13th, 14th and 15th century . Our day tour starts with Nasir-ad-Din complex. This place is built in typical Mameluke architecture. It is crowned by a giant Dome. Then I can lead you to the Ashraf Barsbay Mosque. Here I can tell you more what’s all about Egyptian currency and economies. The complex of Sultan al-Ashraf Quaytbay which I will show you next, was built in 1474. It includes such facilities like a mosque, a school, a water tap for people passing by for free and also a tube for animals to drink. This complex tells a lot of stories about the life of the Circassian Mameluke dynasty. It is said that the Kobet Afendina is the second largest and most Beautiful tomb in the world. It comes just after the Taj Mahal in India. This is gonna be our next station. Among other people who are buried here is the Khedive Tawfiq und his wife Emina Ilhami and their sons Abbas Helmy II and his brother Prince Mohamed Ali Tawfiq.  With this day tour my guests will learn a lot of this part of Egyptian history, the royal family at this time and their significance for this days Egypt.

Where you'll be

Although there are many well-known historical spots in Cairo, The City of the Dead remains an ancient necropolis that almost no one knows about. This city has several places to visit and many stories to tell.Nonetheless, knowing these stories face an obstacle, having a tour guide while visiting the place as it is hard to reach. The Desert of the Mamluks or the Cairo Necropolis is an Islamic necropolis below the Mokattam Hills in south-eastern Cairo
