What you'll do

[Walking tour, car tour, dinner, music & dance] No, tango is not Argentinian! Tango is from Río de la Plata, and it was born in both sides of the river: Montevideo and Buenos Aires. We'll take a Montevideo car & walking tour starting at dusk and then have a tango evening. In our ride we'll go to various places and neighbourhoods of Montevideo related with tango culture and history, where I will share with you the history behind tango. We'll also talk about Candombe, which shares roots with tango, and about some of Uruguayan history and idiosyncrasy, and about our city. That way, we'll take a good Montevideo tour with tango as leading subject. Tango is a music, a dance and part of Montevideo culture: we'll talk and have of all of it. We'll listen to traditional, contemporary and fusion tango and understand the spirit of the dance. We'll then go to a milonga (a tango dancing place) where local tango enthusiasts spend some of their evenings. I will show you the basics of tango dancing, so you hopefully will be able to tango a little bit! There maybe we can share a table with some of the milonga regulars. Before milonga you'll probably want something to eat. We'll choose together what kind of food and place suits you best.

Amalia

I am an architect and I love history, arts and cities. I also love Montevideo and discovering always a little bit more about it. Tango is one of my passions in Uruguayan culture, I dance it and know the places and forms where it lives in Montevideo, something not always easily visible.

More tips
