What you'll do

The highlight of this tour is visiting Setagaya's most famous historic spots. Gotoku-ji Temple is famous for beckoning cat and family graves of Ii-Family who played an important position of Tokugawa Shogunate. Anoter visiting spot is Setagaya Hachiman-gu Shrine, which is a facility of Japan's native religion (Shinto). The shrine is the biggest in Setagaya-City and famous for one of the origin of sumo wresling. We visit Gotokuji first. I explain the history of the temple starting in the late 15th centry and the background why this temple becomes famous for beckoning cat. I also bring guests to Ii-Family graves which is designated as National important cultural property. After the temple, we move to Setagaya Hachiman-gu Shrine by less than 10-minute walk. My guidance starts from the type of all shrines and the features of them. Then I explain the history of this shrine which started in the late 11th centry as well as the uniuquess of this shrine. Guests can learn how this area was developed as the center of Setagaya-City and enjoy quite and sacred atomosphere. After the shrine, we walk to the local shopping street named Gotoku-ji Shopping Street where you can experience daily lives of the local residents by visiting privately owned small stores. At some stores, chat with store owners can be arranged.
