What you'll do

In this experience you’ll make your own mosaic at the SoWa Mosaics studio in the heart of Boston’s Art + Design district!

SoWa Mosaics is a bright and welcoming space featuring mosaics made with homemade tiles of all shapes and sizes.

Each student chooses a square board or picture frame as their base. We will spend a few minutes talking about mosaics and our unique process then you’ll get started glueing tiles and creating your own unique mosaic selecting from an abundance of our handmade colorful tiles.

During the workshop we’ll be walking around to help guide and encourage your work. For smaller groups we like to sit down and create one with you too!

At the end of the workshop, your mosaic will be glued and safe to take home but needs a day to get sturdy and dry completely before you can grout it. Each student goes home with a goodie bag containing grout, gloves and instructions on how to put the finishing touches on the artwork.

After or before the workshop we encourage you to walk around and visit the 100+ other artists, galleries and shops here. Sundays are the most active with several other studios open and a vintage market in the basement. On Sundays in May thru October we have food trucks and outdoor markets too!

I've has been making colorful and abstract mosaics for 15 years using mixed media and polymer clay. My tiles are all handmade, which allows for unique patterns, shapes and sizes. My work can be found in galleries, cafes, schools, corporate buildings and private offices around Boston. I am an active member of Art in Giving, which sells and loans art to raise money for Pediatric cancer research.

I am a Massachusetts native, Skidmore and Babson alum, that spent 12 years in software marketing before pursuing this art dream.

Now I teach workshops for all ages, host birthday parties and corporate team building events at my Boston studio, SoWa Mosaics.

Gifted this experience for my sister and her boyfriend. They said both Audrey and the class were very cool! My sister was so inspired that she has continued making her own little mosaic creations and even said it's her new favorite thing to do in her free time :)

What a wonderful adventure! First, the artist studios at SoWa are a unique stop in Boston, with each studio having its own personality. It’s perfect for a stroll before or after class. The mosaic making is a fantastic afternoon adventure: unique, fun, and with a wonderful host. Audrey helped us make fun, colorful mosaics and is the perfect host: engaging, thoughtful, and excited to share her passion. Two hours felt like just the right amount of time! We’ll be recommending this to our friends to try out ASAP in Boston!

This was a great introduction to mosaic art! Audrey was wonderful at providing instructions and allowing independence but with helpful feedback along the way. The examples of her work on the walls were very inspirational. I would definitely recommend this as a fun group activity or as a personal project.

Audrey made us feel welcomed right from the start, and she remained engaged with us as we worked on our mosaics throughout the session. Her instructions were clear and easy to follow, and she prepared and provided all the materials and tools that we needed well in advance. She also gave us lots of tips as well as sample works to draw inspiration from, but she was also careful not to color our views with her own opinions, so we had a lot of freedom to exercise our creativity. Audrey even shared a lot about how she got into arts, as well as her goals for her studio, so we felt like we were actually working with a friend instead of simply following instructions. Overall, we had a great time, and my girlfriend even called the experience "therapeutic"! Highly recommended!

Audrey was fantastic and we had a blast making Mosaics. Our large group of 8 ranged from age 5 to age 50. She personalized the experience for everyone and was attentive and prepared for any and all needs. The studio space was cozy and professional. We really felt as though we gained some insight into the world of professional art. I would highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys tapping into a creative side!

I loved taking this class and highly recommended it to someone living or visiting Boston. A relaxing few hours to become absorb in art and leave with something you create. Audrey is lovely-friendly, welcoming and helpful. The settings is great, it is in her studio in a large building filled with artist studios. A fun activity to do alone, or with family or friends. We were temporarily living in Boston while my husband was having treatment at MGH. For someone who may be supporting someone in the hospital this is great way to have a short time for yourself and create a positive memory.
