What you'll do

When you first arrive at the studio I will make you familiar with tools and equipment that are essential in any ceramic studio, and introduce you to some materials, like different types of clay and its various stages (from unfired to finished/glazed). In a typical session on the potter's wheel I will demonstrate how to throw a pot and then let you sit at the wheel and guide you through the different steps. This includes: centering a ball of clay on the wheel head, opening, pulling up, finishing and wiring off the pot from the wheel head. It is quite a thrill and definitely an unique experience! You can double the fun by bringing along a friend and/or your travel companion - in this case you will take it in turn on the wheel - once both of you had their go, we will choose a glaze (a finish) and leave the pots to dry. I will fire them and post them within 4 weeks. I provide everything including aprons and refreshments. You only need to bring your enthusiasm and imagination!

Learn more about Francesca

Francesca

FV/Ceramics Studio was set up by me, Francesca Vendramin, to provide a space for making and to introduce clay to a broader public. I am a graduate from Central Saint Martins' Ceramics Design and have had my hands in clay for over 20 years. I have supported after school art activities at a local primary, run group clay sessions at business events and fairs and a couple of years ago established my studio to work full-time and teach as part of a creative hub in South West London. I love sharing my passion for this common but wonderful material and taking people through a clay activity. There are always laugh, chat and wow moments when people sit together to make.

Where you'll be

My ceramics studio is located within a creative hub of over 50 artists and makers. There is a small gallery on site with a regular programme of exhibitions by contemporary printmakers and painters. It is South West London's best kept secret! Only 10 minutes away and you are in Tooting Market, one of the most loved covered markets in London. Great for street food, vintage clothing, arts&crafts stalls. Truly unmissable!
