About your host

Hi! I'm an outdoor guide, climber, hiker, and Yoga teacher based in Joshua Tree, California. I own/direct a guiding + Yoga company called Sacred Spiral Adventures (findable on the web at https://www.sacredspiraladventures.com). I have also worked in outdoor education here in the high desert, and I teach writing at the local college. I love making music, writing, and engaging in pretty much any…

What we’ll do

This is a radical FULL day of rock scrambling and hiking in a steep backcountry canyon of Joshua Tree National Park! Our route leads to and from a beautiful, very hard-to-find area, the Valley of the Kings. This is an advanced but extremely rewarding outdoor activity. Enthusiastic beginners are welcome. Rubber-soled hiking boots or approach shoes are strongly recommended! We'll meet at the…

What else you should know

Rubber-soled hiking boots or approach shoes are really very useful on this outing. (Take this from someone who's been known to hike in flip flops!) "Sticky" shoes are definitely the footwear you'll want!

What I’ll provide

Sports equipment
Chalk (for hands)

What to bring

Enough water for a full, VERY active day in a dry environment
Food and any medications needed
Day pack or backpack (for water and food)
Warm clothing for sudden drops in temperature
Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
Hiking boots, approach shoes, or other "sticky"-soled shoes

Where you'll be

The Rattlesnake Canyon area up to the Valley of the Kings (and the secret hut... shhhh!) is a huge, unique tumble of quartz monzogranite and a one-of-a-kind experience. A favorite training ground for local climbers and hardcore hikers, this truly magical backcountry area is very difficult to navigate, but incredibly rewarding to explore.

Guest safety

Outdoor activities carry risks, and you may be exposed to dangerous situations as part of this experience. Make sure you can participate safely given your abilities and the conditions (such as location, weather, and equipment).
