I am fascinated by the accounts of the Officers of the First Fleet written contemporaneously with the British occupation of Eora lands. I have studied the history of British colonisation during this crucial window between 1788 to the conclusion of Arthur Phillip's term as first Governor of NSW . I find fascinating the accounts of interactions with the Indigenous Gadigal people who are described in detail. The question of whether this Land was forcibly occupied is a current topic of debate. The British concept of Terra Nullius is now largely rejected.

Where you'll be

Meeting at Circular Quay train station on the ground level - from there we'll walk across to the Sydney Opera House and Opera Bar pausing to discuss Bennelong Point, the First Fleet and the passage of arrival. After walking a loop of the Opera House, we'll head over to The Rocks passing the Museum of Contemporary Art on our way - great spot for some photo opportunities.
