What you'll do

We will meet up in the evening at Sharks Cove, located near the state Marine Protected Area on the North Shore of Oahu. The educational tour begins with a short presentation about the unique and wondrous marine ecosystems of Hawaii. We will discuss which characteristics of the islands make Hawaii's ecosystems unlike any others in the world. You will be introduced to the organisms and creatures we will be seeing during our tour as well as given a safety briefing outlining possible risks.

At the conclusion of the presentation, you will be provided with underwater lights, reef shoes to protect your feet (optional), and a mask and snorkel to search for endemic invertebrates in the tidal areas of Sharks Cove. Many of these unique creatures can often only be found after dark. We will photograph them, describe them, and discuss each animal we find.

At the conclusion of our time in the tide pools, we will debrief on the beach about what we saw and the significance of each creature. Questions will be answered. You will be provided with photos of the animals as a keepsake to remember.

What an awesome way to experience Oahu but with an experienced and educated guide. Don reviewed the sea creatures we would be looking for, found many of them and even let us hold them. I got to hold an octopus for the first time. would definitely do this again. Thank Don!!

Loved our whole night experience with Don! We had a group of 4, my husband and I and our two daughters, ages 11 & 17. We had to reschedule nights because of weather and Don could not have been more flexible and accommodating with us. He was wonderful to work with. And our actual night adventure was awesome. We loved all the info he gave at the beginning, as a marine biologist and as a local. It really enhances your whole experience on the north shore to talk with and learn from locals. Our experience in the water was super cool. We saw all sorts of marine life that only come out at night, sea urchins, star fish, shrimp, sea cucumbers, beautiful fish, an eel! And my favorite was the octopus! We got to touch things and hold things. Don is so knowledgeable and so friendly. It was a bit chilly but worth it. I would definitely recommend this adventure for anyone. Thanks Don!

BOOK THIS!! It was such a unique and unforgettable experience! Our entire group of five young adults enjoyed it even after snorkeling on our own in the same area during the day. It was a completely different experience at night and I was blown away by Don’s expertise and ability to point out and find marine life. He was the perfect guide for this and he even shared beautiful pictures of everything we saw afterward. The whole experience was exciting with a laid back and comfortable vibe, and we learned so much while having so much fun. It was absolutely one of our favorite experiences on our trip and definitely something I’ll remember forever. The affordable price is a real bonus too. I’d recommend this to anyone of any age and any skill level - don’t miss this one.

Must-do that’s off the beaten path! I really feel like this is a once in a lifetime experience. Don was so kind, made sure we were outfitted & comfortable, and delivered such great information. At a time when biodiversity is threatened by so many factors, I feel lucky to have been able to meet so many creatures in their wild habitat!

My group had an amazing time on this adventure and I'll be highly recommending this excursion to my friends. Don is very knowledgeable and passionate about his field, and makes sure to include everyone in on the fun. Also, he takes tons of beautiful photos that you get to download. One thing I would recommend is to bring a wetsuit if you get cold easily.
