What you'll do
We will meet up at Truckee Tahoe bagel Company on Mount Rose highway to fuel up before the expedition. Then we will head up to the designated parking spot I’m not Rose highway. From here we will gather our gear and head on to the hill. (A gear list will be provided prior to excursion). We will all check batteries, beacons, and probes, and I will do a brief talk on Beacon usage and basic Avalanche safety and rescue. Avalanche danger will be low on our chosen days of adventure. This will be decided by the Sierra Avalanche advisory found here: https://www.sierraavalanchecenter.org/advisory Avalanche knowledge is useful But not necessary for our introductory excursion. We will then apply skins to our skis and head up the mountain. I will assess group fitness and we will stop accordingly. Various stops may be made to assess snow quality and compaction tests to assess the integrity of the snowpack. A “pit test” could also be dug and done if guests are interested in further snow analysis. We will summit mount Rose by way of ridgeline and decide to go over to the “hourglass” or drop the face of Rose. Sometime during all this we will break for a snack and hydration. The trip should roughly take 3:30/4:00 hours. Roughly two hours up and one hour down. The decent will be well earned and exhilarating. Strong intermediate or expert skiers with AT setup experience.
