What you'll do
Explore the most delicious community event of the week in Honolulu's hottest new neighborhood––Kakaʻako. Join me as we taste samples and chat with Oʻahu's most notable farmers and artisans. You will get to speak with experts and learn how they are helping move Hawaiʻi's food system in a healthier, more sustainable direction. Every vendor has something unique and very special to share. As a chef and regular of the market, I will share my connections with the vendors, recommendations and suggestions on how to purchase and prepare our local ingredients. This market is special because of its variety and intimacy. It is big enough to offer a wide range of locally made products, ingredients, and prepared foods, but small enough that you don't feel rushed from stand to stand by large crowds. We will be trying many different types of foods on this tour like poke, tropical fruits, organic veggies and sourdough pizza, so be sure to bring your appetite!
I'm a former San Francisco chef, now known around Honolulu as the Healthy Locavore. I host farm-to-table dinners, lead farmers market tours and am a freelance food writer. I've cooked professionally since 1998, am an advocate for family farms and am passionate about educating consumers about sustainable agriculture, the food security issues of Hawaii and how to eat local. In my spare time I support small wellness-based businesses with marketing and event coordinating services and blog about local food at www.healthylocavore.com.
