What you'll do
Explore the most delicious community event of the week in Honolulu's hottest new neighborhood––Kakaʻako.
Join me as we taste samples and chat with Oʻahu's most notable farmers and artisans. You will get to speak with experts and learn how they are helping move Hawaiʻi's food system in a healthier, more sustainable direction. Every vendor has something unique and very special to share. As a chef and regular of the market, I will share my connections with the vendors, recommendations and suggestions on how to purchase and prepare our local ingredients.
This market is special because of its variety and intimacy. It is big enough to offer a wide range of locally made products, ingredients, and prepared foods, but small enough that you don't feel rushed from stand to stand by large crowds.
We will be trying many different types of foods on this tour like poke, tropical fruits, organic veggies and sourdough pizza, so be sure to bring your appetite!
Other things to note
Bring water (it's easy to get dehydrated here). Wear comfy shoes & light clothes as we will be doing a lot of standing and it can get warm. Most vendors take cash only. Transportation is not included

Where you'll be
We will be visiting the Kaka'ako Farmer's Market. A weekly, local event held in the heart of the Kaka'ako, the newest and hippest neighborhood in Honolulu. In addition to locally grown produce you will find fresh local fish, meats, bread, and ready-to-eat treats. Tropical fruit slushy anyone?
We came with our toddler five minutes late, but Sarah and the rest of the group was very kind. In two hours we got to know many different products from local farmers and producers.
So good. So sympathetic. If we had had all the information before, we had bought many of our groceries ecery saturday at the farmers market - not in the supermarket.
Sarah is a great host and we are looking further to the next time.
Cheers!

Great tour! Sarah knew a lot of the vendors who all told great stories of how their business came to be. Lots of samples from each booth and an understanding of local food and customs. Got to try a bunch of new fruits and vegetables I would have never made an effort to buy/try on my own. Overall, great experience!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Even as locals, we learned a lot about the various merchants and their offerings - making the products and services even more special. We REALLY liked the food samples too! Thank you Sarah for sharing your vast knowledge and experience with us and helping us to appreciate the local artisans and their homegrown businesses even more!

This was a great experience that I feel fits anyone's expectations. It is very informative and highlights things for locals to appreciate as well as tourists. It's a great networking tool if you are part of the food & beverage industry and even if you're shopping for home use. The tour stops at several vendors and some probably change so the tour doesn't get dull on a second time around. Sarah is very knowledgeable and can relate very well based on her audience. I definitely recommend this tour to anyone! She also gives out information on the vendors you meet as well as a very thorough list of places to eat and drink.
