What you'll do

Aloha and Welcome as we gather around the information table at Sharkey's 100-year old farmhouse in the historic plantation village of Papaikou. Sample our freshly brewed 100% Hawaiian coffee or cacao tea, grown right here on the farm. From there we begin an easy walk through our orchards where you'll learn about Hawaiian coffee growth and production. Interwoven behind the coffee are rows of cacao trees. Depending on the time of year, you can usually see tiny flowers and large, multi-colored pods hanging from trunks and branches. Long, heavy vanilla vines grow up the cacao trees, nature's perfect trellis! We'll show you how each vanilla orchid is delicately hand-pollinated to produce long "hands" of vanilla beans. We'll then proceed to the "Slab" where the pods are 'cracked' before the fermentation process. Next we move into the greenhouse where flats of newly planted seedlings just beginning their journey grow alongside large screens filled with coffee and cacao beans slowly drying to perfection. Finally we'll move into our certified Chocolate Kitchen where the Magic happens! Who wants a taste? Free samples!
Other things to note

Such a wonderful experience! Sharky is so passionate and knowledgeable about his farm and the ins and outs of his work. The tour was a nice mix of hands on learning and playfulness! We were welcomed with fresh coffee, chocolate, and hand-dipped madeline cookies. Then got a tour of the land and learned a bit about the plants and what goes into harvesting the cacao, vanilla, and coffee beans. We ended the tour with spoonfuls of freshly melted chocolate, and packing up to-go bags of cacao nibs and tea leaves. We shared lots of jokes and laughter and left the tour with a big smile on our faces! Thank you so much Sharky!

We all enjoyed the tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and interesting. The chocolate and goodies to take home were a nice touch. Our one negative tho' was that neither the guide nor the others on our tour wore masks so we had to continually be cognizant of distancing ourselves.

We loved the casual atmosphere of the tour and the passion in which Sharky talked about his experiences with farming in Hawaii. Also, the goodies at the end of the tour were quite a treat. Thanks again to Sharky, Ana, and Bliss!

Tom gave a great and informative tour of his farm. I've always wanted to try raw coco beans and got to eat my fill and well as take some complimentary chocolate bars, beans, vanilla, and cacaco tea. The tour started with some delicious homegrown coffee and a bit of back ground on the geologyof the Hawaiian islands. We got to see Tom's plants and the process to make coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. Great time! I would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time with the experience! Tom was extremely knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the process of growing, drying and over our preparation for the final product of coffee, vanilla and chocolate. just spending the morning with Tom alone was a great experience, learning about his time in San Francisco and California during the late 60s and early 70s. As a cherry on top, the coffee and chocolate were delicious! We had some chocolate packed away have you ever planning to save for when we got home but we ended up finishing it pretty quickly during our trip :)
