Explore Cuban life with an economist

La Habana, Cuba

Experience hosted by Jorge

  1. 3.5 hours
  2. Hosted in English

What you'll do

We'll meet in the city center and travel to a popular neighborhood using public transportation, just as typical Cubans do. We'll walk through the community and interact with the people there so you can see what a normal day is like for the locals.

We'll learn about the educational and health systems, visit and learn about historical places, and get to know and interact with small businesses that are part of the lives of the Cuban people.

Together, we'll experience the daily lives and idiosyncrasies of Cubans, and learn about the main accomplishments and challenges of our economic and social reality. The day will end at my family's home, where you will get to know the story of my Cuban family, and also taste some typical drinks and snacks.
Other things to note
Be prepared to walk between two to five kilometers and interact with local people. Bring your sunscreen.

We love Cuba and have been doing tours for more than three years. We strive to make each day a little better and enjoy discovering its reality at the same time that we dream about its future. This vocation, coupled with our profession as economists and graduate from the University of Havana, has encouraged us to study and discover issues related to the daily lives of Cubans, including their history, culture, idiosyncrasies, entrepreneurship, and more.
We have some friends who are doing this tour with us, normally will be two of us on the tour to show you Cuba from different perspectives and to do a better job. We are two Jorges hosting this, both from the same school and with the same love for Cuba.

This is an excellent tour for anyone wanting to gain a view into the Cuban society today - I came away with a much better appreciation of what I was observing in Havana. Highly recommended.

Jorge was communicative, thorough, and friendly. We were a bachelorette group of 11 and we worked with Jorge to get a private tour. It was amazing! We learned so much about Cuban economics and culture through Jorge and his brother that we could not have learned in a generic walking tour. Highly recommend.

Our tour with Jorge was one of the highlights of our trip. He is incredibly knowledgeable and is able to describe and explain Cuban life in terms that are easy to understand.

Do this tour! We learned so much. It will be best to do it early in your visit to Cuba, especially if you are American... You really understand things much differently after doing the tour. Jorge is brilliant and we loved learning from him. The rum was nice, too:)

Jorge and his brother provide a first-hand experience that seems designed not to overwhelm, but to inform. And if you’re not shy (the rum at his grandma’s house will help) they leave no topic off the table. You truly don’t know Cuba if you don’t understand it’s history FROM IT’S PEOPLE’S PERSPECTIVE. Jorge provides this in droves and has a global perspective and genuine curiosity. His personal story is incredible and despite the limitations, he clearly loves his country.
