What you'll do

We will meet at Connolly Train Station in the City Centre.
Take a train to Howth.

While on board the train there will be an Introduction to the history and culture of Ireland and of Howth in particular

We will stop in Howth Fishing Village to tour the harbour.

Then begin the first part of our hike along the stunning coastal path as far as the breath-taking views overlooking the Bailey Lighthouse. I will give a full explanation of all the sights to be seen, Including the wildlife. As a keen birdwatcher I will give an explanation on the behavior and habitat at the seabird colonies that will be passed on route.

Then stop at the Summit Pub for refreshments and an optional light lunch (1 hour)

Then into Deerpark Forest before emerging to the most stunning view on Howth Head, which is from Muck Rock and which is largely unknown to most tourists.

Descending from Muck Rock through more typical Irish woodland to visit Aideen's Grave, which is an enormous Megalithic Dolmen Tomb which is over 5,000 years old, again seldom visited or even heard of by tourists.

We will then pass the historic medieval Howth Castle which has been home to the St Lawrence family since 1180.

Finishing in the lovely atmospheric Bloody Stream Pub which is actually part of Howth Train Station.

I'm a local Dubliner and have lived in Dublin pretty much my whole life. I'm a now a full time tour guide and I'm the top reviewed guide on the Withlocals platform for Dublin. I'm rated as SuperHost by Withlocals

I've hiked regularly for over 20 years. I love being a tour guide. I have found my dream job. I've have led over a 100 tours in the last few months and from that I have received over 100 excellent reviews on the Withlocals website. I have been hiking in Howth for years, I know the area like the back of my hand and I know all the history and wonderful mythology from the area.

The routes I find around the peninsula are not marked on any maps and will not be found by following the designated hiking paths. The route I take is designed to include all the best sights from the various different hiking routes around Howth

Spent a great day exploring off the beaten track of Howth. Eamon is a history expert from the Vikings and ancient legends to present day. We covered a lot of miles, and the pub lunch mid-way through our hike hit the spot. Eamon is clearly passionate about showing visitors the beauty of Ireland, and I highly recommend his tour.

Eamon is an incredibly knowledgeable guide. Our tour through Howth was an incredible experience and Eamon’s storytelling of Irish history, myths, and legends added a great amount to what was already a visually incredible hike.
