About your host

I've been doing research on seismology and the fault systems of Northern and Southern California for the past eight years. I have lived in several parts of Mexico though I am originally from Canada. Directing a documentary about the San Andreas Fault.

What we’ll do

We'll enter through historic Route 66 into the boundary of the Pacific and North American tectonic plates, and see evidence of millions of years of movement right below our feet. We'll explore Cajon Canyon and its hidden features, like Lost Lake, a small body of water created by the movement of the San Andreas Fault, as well as a section of the fault where the rocks are naturally colored blue…

What else you should know

Make sure to bring a camera if you can. They are indispensible on this trip. Video, photo, or both. Sunglasses and hats are a great idea. You also want to bring some sturdy shoes or boots.

What I’ll provide

Granola bars, juice, nuts I'll bring juice, granola bars, and a mix of nuts and seeds. You can bring anything that you would like to add to the picnic.

Where you'll be

We will enter Cajon Canyon just north of San Bernardino, where several strands of the San Andreas Fault and the San Jacinto Fault converge to reveal spectacular winding landscapes. This is also the end point of the last massive earthquake in Southern California in 1857.
