What you'll do

We will meet in the garden in the roundabout in the center of Chefchaouen. From here we will go by taxi to Tetouan where they have the traditional craftsmen work with the sheep to begin the process of making wool for rugs, textiles and leather products. We will see all aspects of preparing wool and leather for the Moroccan products. Dye, clean, cure and prepare for making fibers for rugs, blankets, clothes and all textiles and all the stages of leather production. We will go to leather factories, as well as textile fabricators. We will see people making blankets, rugs and fabrics. We will be in the Old Medina and will have some traditional food, going with the flow there as we become hungry. While in the Medina we will do an informal tour as this is the city I grew up in. I love to show off my city. We will stop at a rug and textile trader between Tetouan and Chefchaouen on the way back to see the results of free trade in Morocco. We will have tea and learn about the women weavers who are supported by some of the generous tradesmen. If you are looking to shop for textiles and rugs this is a good opportunity to do so with the non touristy expensive conglomerates. We will stop at the local side of the road vendors to experience roadside life.
