What you'll do

This full day tour starts at either 07h30 or 09h30 in the morning. You will go out with one of our knowledgeable guides on short nature walk to learn about the flora of the area and what it can be used for. The guide will then take you into a build walk way to observe our beautiful cheetah on his daily enrichment walk. Take some nice photos after wards as the cheetah goes to relax at the dam. Breakfast will be served in our coffee shop as you sit on the deck, looking at the antics of our Marabou Storks. After breakfast go with our rehab staff and see what happens behind the scenes in our rehab hospital and the work it entails to get these variety of wild life back into the wild. The guide will then take you on a leisurely private tour through the rest of Tenikwa to see all the other animals that call us home. Lunch will also be served at our coffee shop. After lunch the guide will take you to assist with our enrichment program for some of our resident cats. Learn why this is important and what this aims to achieve. You will also assist the guide with food preparation for our animals and learn about their feeding regime.

I am the General Manager of Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation center. We are based just outside Plettenberg Bay. Myself, our Operations Manager and our staff has been in the animal industry for many years.

Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation Center

Tenikwa's mission is to rehabilitate and release any injure or abandoned wild animal back into the wild where they belong. Our Cats in Conservation tour offers guest a unique behind the scenes look at what a real wildlife rehab is all about.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

Where you'll be

Your day will begin and end at Tenikwa. Through fynbos and forest you will learn about the conservation challenges the indigenous wild cats of South Africa face. Learn what happens behind the scenes of our wildlife rehab and what it takes to rehab wild animals back into the wild where they belong.
