What you'll do

We will meet at the entrance of Stone Mountain Park so that I can cover your parking fees (saving you $20). After this, we will drive to the base of the mountain before beginning our trek. As we walk up the mountain, I will share ecological and historical information about the area and and take your photos with spectacular backdrops. We will walk about 0.8 of a mile, to a covered pavilion, about ¾ of the way to the summit; the hike is predominantly on solid, granite footing, with many places to pause and rest. The entire hike is only about 1.3 miles, however it gets more strenuous after the pavilion area, so this is where the tour will officially end - You’re welcome to continue to the summit, and I’m more than happy to continue with you; there are handrails on the more strenuous portions. You may also continue your trip in Stone Mountain Park, visiting the Confederate History Museum, The Quarry Exhibit, picnic areas, Stone Mountain Lake, and/or the Spectacular Laserlight Show.
To request a different time/date, click on the “Contact Host” button below, then “Request Availability,” or send us a message; we are happy to accommodate.
Other things to note
Although this is a hike, it is very reasonable. The entire trail is on solid granite footing. There are steps and rails where the trail gets difficult, which you may use if you choose to. Please wear hiking-appropriate clothing and shoes.

I have been a local science and history teacher for eight years. Stone Mountain is my home, so I’m especially passionate about the area. I have studied Stone Mountain's geology and ecology in addition to it’s historical significance, with an emphasis on how the area and park influenced civil rights. I have degrees in both biology as well as psychology, which provide me with a unique ability to address the natural and social aspects of the mountain.
