What you'll do

We will know the shepherd’s life and his 500 “massese” and “Garfagnina” sheep; you may be “shepherds” for one day: lead the flock out of the fold, feed them and, depending on the period, pamper the little lambs or watch the shearing. We will show you the processing of sheep’s milk in the many products offered by the dairy: pecorino (typical Tuscany cheese), stracchino, ricotta, yogurt and ice cream. EveryTuesday, Thursday and Saturday only, by appointment, you can make with your hands a small form of first salt cheese, which you can then take with you. Finally we will taste in the open air (in case of rain in the nearby barn) all dairy products, accompanied by local honey, walnuts, fresh fruit, bread and a good glass of Tuscan wine. We will continue the visit discovering a place nearby, that will make us go back in time: an old water mill still working, where the current miller Francesco carries on for passion the family tradition. We will relive the grinding of wheat with the stone driven by the power of water and Francesco will involve us with many stories and anecdotes about the life of the small village historically linked to the flow of water.

Simona

Hello! We are Simona and Giulio, a couple from Lucca. “Curiosity” is our watchword, which has always led us to discover the most typical and hidden corners both in the many trips we have made and in the various places where we have lived for work. Having returned permanently to Lucca few years ago, with the same above-cited spirit, we would like that the tourists who visit our beautiful city, know places and taste unusual emotions, outside the classic tourist tours. The experience we propose has this purpose: share with you two "genuine" places, not well known also by the Lucchesi (citizens of Lucca).

Where you'll be

The family-run farm is located less than 20 minutes by car from Lucca historic center, on the hills near the small village of San Ginese, surrounded by olive groves, cornfields and sunflowers. The old water mill is nearby, it stands on the so-called "water way" at the feet of Monte Pisano, immersed in the typical Tuscan countryside.
