What you'll do
Although just outside of Bangkok, our experience is totally removed from where tourists travel, giving our guests a feel of the real Thailand. Guests are picked up from the Bang Wa BTS station and first go to a wholesale market with vast amounts of produce, meat, and seafood where our expert chefs will give a history of Thai food and introduce the ingredients used in Thai cuisine. We will then travel to Don Wai Market, a truly local market known for its wide variety of vegetables, fruit, condiments, Thai desserts and snacks. At both markets guests will taste a variety of snacks and ingredients. After exploring the market, guests will board our riverboat and travel down the Tha Chin River to our restaurant. Once arriving, clients are greeted with a welcome drink and snack before moving to our kitchen to begin the class. Fresh herbs and vegetables are picked from the restaurant's gardens by the students to use in the days menu. Guests will learn a variety of different techniques such as pounding curry paste and stir frying. Our menu changes based on what is best at the market and guests can request specific dishes, but the menu usually includes a soup, curry, salad, and rice. After the cooking class, guests dine on the creative Thai dishes based on family recipes that they have helped prepare in the stunning riverside setting. Guests are then transported back to Bang Wa.

I founded Aoywaan on the land of my childhood home where I 'd be awoken every morning at 4am from the sounds of my mother pounding curry paste and scraping coconuts. For the last five years we have been teaching travelers from around the world traditional Thai cuisine in a private setting at our award winning restaurant on the Tha Chin River. Our experience is like any other and includes a tour of two very different local markets and a trip on our riverboat to our restaurant. In 2019 Aoywaan received the coveted Thai Select award given by the Ministry of Commerce to restaurants that have the highest of standard for traditional Thai cuisine, only 117 restaurants in all of Thailand have received this award.
A variety of snacks and fruits from the local markets we will visit. A full traditional Thai meal cooked by you!
We will provide a variety of refreshing drinks during the experience. We also offer alcoholic beverages for purchase.
