What you'll do

**We had 7 litters this year! Latest born Aug 17, 2021***

***Follow @halbertfarm on Facebook, Instagram and Twitch for updates and to meet the pigs before your visit***

We will start the experience in the backyard where you will meet Ripley the house pig. You'll learn about the history of Kunekune pigs and what makes them so unique. If we have younger pigs that are living in the backyard you'll get to meet them then too. I'll have treats prepared for you to feed the pigs and you'll learn how to make them sit and get their treats. Then I'll take you to meet the adult pigs first the girls and then the boys. We have 20 pigs that make up "Halbert Herd" and their ages range from 4 months to 9 years. You'll get to feed the adults treats and they love getting attention and being petted. Most of them will lay down and want their belly rubbed. If we have piglets you'll get to spend time in the piglet pen, depending on their age, you may be able to feed them treats and when they get to be about 3 weeks old they will crawl on your lap.

Other things to note
Make sure to wear closed toes shoes, pigs like to chew on toes. Rain, hiking, mud boots are great options. You will get dirty and we will be outside. Pay attention to the weather and dress accordingly. Long pants work better even when its hot because we may walk in tall grass in the pastures.

Hi! I am Rebeka and I've always dreamed of having a farm. I grew up in Hawaii and moved to Texas to make that dream come true. I met Josh here in Texas and talked him into becoming a farmer. We started Halbert Farm a small 10 acre farm in 2013 with our main focus of raising Kunekune pigs who were critically endangered in the 1970's. Our pigs pasture graze on the land and have two ponds that they cool off in. You'll also get to meet Ripley our "instafamous" pig, she lives in the house with us after having to be hand raised. Follow us on Instagram @halbertfarm to get to know the animals before your visit.

Okay! Wow! I will be honest: I was HYPE about these pigs! I have been talking about them for weeks and had dreamed up my pig meet and greet for weeks now. Even so, this surpassed all expectations. Location: surprisingly accessible for how much land Rebeka and Joshua have. It was a lovely property that is well taken care of, organized neatly, and seems like an oasis for farm animals. Hosts: Rebeka was out of town, so it was just us and Joshua (and the pigs, chickens, and pups!). Joshua is incredibly personal and kind. He clearly loves these animals and wants to share it with others. He knows all their names (even the new piglets) and calls to them wherever we go. He answered all of our questions and was just so open to sharing about his life on the farm. I really cannot speak highly enough of him! P!GS: Enchanting. Hilarious. Smart. Talkative. Adorable. The bigs and all of their siblings were incredible. They are so clearly loved and treasured! They all seemed so happy in their space and also happy to share their time with us.

This was such a beautiful experience, we enjoyed every single minute of it. We learned so much about the Kunekune pigs and we even got to hold the piggys and give them snacks! Rebeka and Josh and very friendly people and know how to make you feel welcomed. If you are thinking about doing this experience, DO IT. You will not be disappointed!

Really had a great time. Rebeka and Josh were just so great. Friendly and welcoming. Very down to earth and true animal lovers. I learned a lot and also got to hold baby pigs, feed others, visit with their darling dogs, cows and a very special donkey. Got t a bit dirty and enjoyed every bit of it..if you love animals and good people. Go for a visit. 💗

Loved getting to hold the babies! The chewing sounds were cuteness overload! The way they let me ply water into their little mouths and slurped it up way way too cute.

We truly enjoyed our visit to the farm. Josh was very knowledgeable, friendly and informative about the pigs and other animals on the farm. We were able to spend time with the pigs and feed them snacks. It was a nice afternoon.

We loved meeting all the pigs! Each one had a different personality and it was wonderful to be so up close and personal while learning about the breed. We had a great time feeding them and would do again if in the area! Thank you Joshua for such a informative experience.
