About El Refugio del Burrito

Our mision is to transform the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people in Spain through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships. The objectives of El Refugio del Burrito are the provision of care, protection and permanent security for donkeys and mules which are in need due to abandonment, mistreatment or neglect
This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to El Refugio del Burrito. .

What we’ll do

You will have an authentic local experience of the life within an equine sanctuary that support sustainable, ethical, community-based tourism. We will share half-day with our 76 rescued donkeys and mules and our local staff and volunteers, learning a lot about the behaviour and care of equines and you will have the chance to even help us in rehabilitating them! Transport must be organised by yourself, although we can pick you up and drop you to the closest train or bus stations (Fuente de Piedra or Antequera-Santa Ana) for a small supplement.

Where you'll be

We are based in Fuente de Piedra, close to the second biggest natural reserve of Flamingos in Europe. Our traditional Spanish cortijo (farm), complete with a charming olive grove and traditional buildings, has been turned into a safe haven for donkeys and mules rescued from across Europe.
