Guests will travel to historic Okotoks, 15 minutes south of Calgary, to reach Jim and Marion's spacious home. Concerts start at 7:00 pm so it is appreciated if guests could please arrive 15 minutes ahead of time. The performance consists of two 40 minute sets with a 15-20 minute intermission. Guests may BYOB if they wish, and Jim and Marion will supply snacks and pop. It is indeed an inviting and intimate setting in front of the fireplace in the Reader's living room. This home setting, combined with Jim's historically based songs (all in chronological order) allows guests to totally relax and leave with a unique sensory experience. Guests will feel the wind, smell the sage and taste the traildust down the trails of Alberta's Old West.
Other things to note
We would absolutely love it that since we are in the middle of cattle country and the home of the world famous Calgary Stampede, that Guests get in the spirit and dress Western! Boots, hat, jeans are the norm.... PLEASE don't wear a suit to this down home intimate gathering! :-)

Where you'll be

Jim and Marion Reader's home in Okotoks, Alberta, is a prime location. If a larger venue is required - no problem! -- there is always one close by, however Jim's intimate home setting is always preferable.

This was a fabulous night full of laughs, toe tapping, and surprising lessons on the history of our beautiful country. Jim and Marion are warm and friendly. The cheese ball was an event of its own!

We had a wonderful evening listening to Jim’s immersive songwriting and storytelling. Jim and Mar are very welcoming hosts who open up their western inspired home and make everyone feel comfortable. Jims passion for history and his own experience living on a ranch really comes through in the performance. I was born and raised in Alberta and still left learning so much about the history of our land. Jim’s humour and charm along with his wonderful guitar and singing truly made this evening a delight. I would recommend this for anyone, local or from out of town who enjoys live music and western history.

What an experience!! Jim and Mar really know how to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome in their home. I attended this experience with my girlfriend and parents. All of which thoroughly enjoyed the night. Jim puts on an amazingly educational concert made up of a visual slide show and all original music to really get the toes a tapping! Fun for the whole family young and old! I would highly recommend this experience. Jim's extensive knowledge of western culture along with his natural ability to entertain is a must for any local or visitor to the area!

I purchased this experience as a gift for my folks and it was such a hit. They both reported that they had such a great evening with Jim, his Wife, and the other attending guests. They especially appreciated all of the work and personal touches that went into the evening. The attention to detail, especially the slideshow, and the interesting history from the 1800-1900s of this region, the Natives, and the settlers. All very special things that make this region historically rich and unique. Lastly, and by no means least; Jim's music was excellent and all original. All elements combined to make for a fantastic evening for my folks. Thank you Jim!
