While originally from Canada, I've lived in Oaxaca for over thirty years. I am passionate about the relationship between nature and culture; agriculture began, right here in the Valle de Tlacolula, about 8,000 years ago. There is no better way to explore this unique eco-system than on the back of a horse.
I've owned and trained horses for twenty years and 15 years ago I began leading guided riding tours. With my son, in 2019, I rode 360 kms. in six days from my Rancho Pitaya to the Pacific coast of Oaxaca.
I am a certified holistic health therapist and have been teaching equitation for 10 years. I live with 14 horses ( 5 of them born on my ranch), 11 hens, 4 dogs & 2 cats. I love birdwatching and over forty species can be seen here.
I nurture a small nursery focused on cultivating native agaves for transplant back into the local lands.

Wonderful place to go. We were exhausted from a hike the day before and we were worried this was going to be too much. It was actually very peaceful and relaxing. Host did a wonderful job making us feel included.

Very well cared for and well trained horses. Mary Jane knew a lot about the local area and gave us just the right amount of instruction for riding the horses. We had a great time.

A great experience! The views on the trail were breathtaking and it was fascinating to see the wild Agave and other plants. The trail is probably best for visitors who have ridden horses before but you definitely don't need to be an expert or anything at all. The after-ride snacks and guava-lime coolers were a lovely touch!

It was a wonderful experience riding and enjoying views around the ranch in Oaxaca, simply superb. The owner and trainer Mary Jane instilled confidence in my mothers first horseback riding experience. There are possibilities to take different routes and levels of complexity.
