What you'll do

Cooking Spanish food with soul!

I'll teach guests how to cook traditional Spanish tapas, but with soul. How to cook with passion, and flavor. With creativity and ingenuity. To cook using all of our senses, the way I learned from my family, especially from my Spanish-mother-in-law.

As we cook our way through a meal of Spanish classics, we'll learn and chat. Nibble, and taste. I'll explain the history, origins and personal connection of the food because for me food is always personal. We will break bread and create community. I'll explain what cooking with soul means to me, and help each person discover their own meaning.

While we cook we we make and enjoy three different cocktails. At the end we will make a meal of our tapas and sit down to eat family style. You will have your choice of beverage.

I was born a foodie about 20 years before the term was invented! I´ve always loved food and the power of sharing food and breaking bread with others. I´ve spent my life learning about food and wine, working in restaurants, and eating my way around the world. I came to Madrid to teach English. After a few years I realized l liked teaching, I just needed to change the subject from English to food!

I’ve taken a few other cooking classes, but Isaac’s class was very unique in that he doesn’t use recipes — just soul and senses. Although there were no recipes, Isaac provided a notebook for us and we left feeling like we could replicate the dishes at home. My friend and I really enjoyed sharing stories with him and his passion for cooking. The best part of the experience was eating a delicious, homemade meal at the end. We highly recommend taking Isaac’s cooking class!

I booked this last minute the not before given that I just flew into Madrid the day before from NYC. I’m so glad I booked. As a Black woman I absolutely was drawn to Issac’s soul spin on Spanish cuisine and he gave me soooo much info on the region and the rest of my plans in Europe. He was very welcoming and more importantly, the food was DELICIOUS!! Gazpacho was amazing and everything we made was something I realistically see myself doing at home. Book now!

I booked the cooking class with Isaac as my mother was visiting me in Madrid and wanted to learn how to cook Spanish food. Isaac delivered on all of that and more! When we arrived he had traditional Spanish appetizers waiting for us to try, such as olives, chorizo, queso manchego, and ensaladilla rusa. He taught us how to make the classic tortilla española, pollo al ajillo (chicken with garlic sauce), and pisto manchego. While he taught the class, we were provided with notebooks and pencils to take notes, as well as typical drinks such as vermut, tinto de verano and clara con limón. He even fried up some croquetas that he had in the freezer to snack on while we were waiting for the chicken to cook just right. When everything was ready we moved to the dining room and ate everything - and it was delicious! Isaac is so friendly and knowledgable on all kinds of Spanish food, and answered all of my mother's questions about the different kids of paprika and olive oil with knowledge and patience. The experience was more like cooking with a good friend than a class, and he made us feel right at home. I especially appreciated the "soul" aspect of the classes - adding a bit more flavor here and there to perk up the dishes some, but it's all authentic Spanish food! I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in learning how to make some classic Spanish dishes. Isaac knows his stuff, and is a great cook, and a wonderful teacher.

This review is certainly long overdue! My sister and I traveled all the way from sunny California to beautiful Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) for a much needed vacation! Our quest looking for activities and various experiences led us to this exceptional feature on Airbnb where we found Isaac’s cooking class – Cooking Spanish Classics with Soul. My sister and I were blown away by Isaac‘s vibrant and warm personality and spirit, but his cooking sent us over the edge! We have since returned to our home in California, but have replicated all the dishes with the same excellence as Isaac taught us (except we haven’t attempted the croquettes us yet :-) I highly recommend and encourage anyone visiting Madrid to carve out time during their stay for Isaac‘s cooking class. Trust me, you will be in for a wonderful treat and will leave with the gift that keeps giving…food that can be shared with family and friends for years to come!! Thank you, Isaac!
