What you'll do

While visiting my art studio, you will learn the process and techniques that can be used in working with encaustics (beeswax & damar resin) to paint. I will provide ALL of the materials and tools, giving you the chance to try this unique art medium WITHOUT having to invest in all of the needed supplies. You will be painting, so be ready to be a bit messy :) We will be using hot plates and heat guns. The material is notoriously spontaneous, so be prepared to have fun and go with the flow! You will get to try different techniques AND have the opportunity to create a small painting to take home. I love sharing this process :)

Bring your friends, come meet some new ones, or book a private session for one on one, family time or a date night.
Other things to note
I like to create a space that is welcoming and open. Melting wax often has a mind of its own, so be ready to laugh and be kind with the outcome :) Your painting will be ready for you to take home.

ALL are welcome, regardless of experience. Working in encaustics can be very therapeutic :)

In a relaxed space, I will encourage you to explore your creative side while experimenting with beeswax, resin and heat! I have been a professional artist for over 25 years, and I LOVE sharing the process with others; our session will allow you a unique opportunity to work in encaustics WITHOUT investing in all the tools! My Art is in the permanent collection at the Museum of Encaustic Art as well as public, private and corporate collections in the US, Canada, Panama, Belgium, France and the UK. Bring your friends, come meet some new ones, or book a private session for one on one, family time or a date.

If you can't find a day or time that works, or would like to book for a larger group, feel free to ask! I will always try to make it work.

I had wanted to learn how to do the encaustic painting for a long time and this was a great chance. I was very happy to find this class and I was even happier when I started playing with wax and paints in Kari’s studio. She demonstrated first with a great introduction and then I had enough time to test/practice the medium. She showed me more techniques as I got used to the medium gradually, and I finally started my very first encaustic painting on a small wood block. I will definitely continue working on encaustics. Kari is a great host/artist/teacher. Very friendly, considerate, professional and encouraging. I like her studio and the neighborhood. It has a special warmth, just like her works.

I splurged and surprised my sister with a fun day together being creative and learning a new art technique. It was a wonderful experience and it definitely got our creative juices flowing! Now we have the basics and feel confident to try it at home. I’m grateful for the positive, fun atmosphere that Kari provided and felt like she enjoyed having us. The small class gave it a very personalized touch and we felt cozy in her beautiful studio. I would highly recommend taking her class to anyone, all ages and all skill levels. Kari is a great teacher and was very knowledgeable, patient and kind.

A delightful, unique experience. Kari was very warm, welcoming and generous with her: time, attention and expertise. Both her studio and neighborhood are quite charming, pleasant spaces. Kari made the entire experience: accessible, interesting and fun. We had a one-on-one session; and, I left feeling lighter and inspired. I would highly recommend attending any of her classes, even if you're on your own.

I took my three daughters to this experience. They all enjoyed it and Kari was super at working with all of us. She did a wonderful job of explaining the process, letting us experiment, and keeping track of the time so we didn’t have to rush through our final painting.

I joined some friends to learn how to work with encaustics at Kari’s studio. Kari is friendly and knowledgeable but spent minimal time explaining and let us get right into it. She was very encouraging and gave guidance when we asked but otherwise let us do our own thing. I really appreciated that she let us practice a bit before moving to our final piece because it gave me a sense of what the material could do. It was relaxing and a fine way to pass the afternoon- highly recommend!
