What you'll do

2 Hour Adventure Whale Watch Rafting Tour (Seasonal Dec-April) with Hawaii Ocean Rafting. Join us aboard our small group, (16 guests or less) family style, ocean raft for eye-level Whale Watching from Lahaina Harbor, Maui!
Humpback whales return to the warm Hawaiian waters every year during the winter months for their mating and calving season. Whales are protected in Hawaii and we do not approach them closer than federal regulations, but they often approach our small rafts for those up close and eye level whale encounters. Your tour includes a full narration of interesting whale and Maui facts by our marine naturalist, listening to whale songs on a hydrophone, water onboard and lots of photo ops!
What's Included: Marine Naturalist whale narration and hydrophone onboard for listening to whale songs.
Due to safety concerns, no pregnant women or people with back or neck injuries or children under the age of 3. Please bring a towel, sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. Just provide us with 24 hours notice of cancellation for a full refund, 72 hours notice required for private charters or groups of 10 or more for full refund. Tour is subject to cancellation or reschedule due to weather or capacity.

I am the owner of Hawaii Ocean Rafting and have lived on Maui for over 43 years. I started this journey of the sea life on a Maui scuba boat where I eventually earned my Captain's license. I then gained experience working on sport fishing boats, Inter-Island sailboats, glass bottom boats, sea taxi's for the U.S NAVY, parasailing, and ocean rafting.

I enjoy taking out new visitors to explore these beautiful oceans I get to call my workplace. I am proud to say Hawaii Ocean rafting offers an up close and personal experience with marine life unlike any other tour company out there!

Where you'll be

We leave the historic and tranquil Lahaina Harbor on the raft to cruise Maui's west coast. The calm west side oceans are prime whale watching territory because they are sheltered by two other islands (Lanai and Molokai)!

Check in at Slip # 8 in Lahaina Harbor!
Parking is free around the Harbor area for 3 hours or less. Closest paid parking lot is located behind Paia Fish Market on Front Street or off Dickenson Street.

We had an awesome experience with JP and Callen. Great info and insight on whales. We got lucky and saw a mama and baby breaching. Got to listen to the whales with a microphone which was super cool. Safe ride, felt comfortable the whole time and like we were in good hands. Would recommend and would definitely go again.

This group of people are amazing. Very knowledgeable, personable, professional group of people. It was our first time going whale watching on a raft and it was one of the best experiences.

I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to do the tour due to the heavy rainfall but luckily we were able to and saw more than a couple of humpback whales. At one point we were able to hear faint whale singing through the machine that was used. Overall, the tour is definitely worth it from having constant communication throughout to a great guide out on the water. It’s kid friendly, fun, and run by a small mom n pop store which is awesome to support.

We took this tour at the very beginning of the whale season. We saw a mother and her calf, and two male whales engaging in a duel. We even managed to see a breach. Only disappointment was that the whales were rather far away and did not approach our raft (understandably the boats are not allowed to go any closer as mandated by federal regulation). This is really a matter of luck, although chances should be higher for a closer encounter around Feb/Mar. As mentioned in some other reviews, being on the raft is much better than being on a larger boat (only thing to note is you will need to leave your shoes at the slip before getting onboard). Overall, we enjoyed the tour - it was a good value for money.

We saw a fair amount of whales for the time of year! My daughter started to get sea sick and Mark and Z were very accommodating! Thanks to you for making the experience great!
