About your host

I’ve lived in and explored the beautiful Forest of Dean area in and around Coleford for the past five years. During that time I’ve walked many miles in the local area and fallen in love with the natural beauty that is all around. I’m very keen to share my knowledge of local routes and wild flowers, etc.

What we’ll do

I will be offering a linear route (‘there and back’) walk from Coleford going North through Forestry Commission land, crossing two roads to end up at the Forest Cabin Holidays site where there is a gift shop and cafe with facilities. The route is 4.75 miles the long. Dogs can be let off the lead briefly at the very start of the walk and then about half way through. The walk will start from The…

What else you should know

Parts of the walk can be very muddy after rain so suitable footwear must be worn. Dogs will need to be on a short lead at times. If you would like to purchase refreshments at the cafe we will stop for approx. 30 minutes. I would appreciate an introductory message from you when you confirm booking.

What to bring

Walking pole - optional
A drink - optional
Waterproof clothing if required
Walking shoes/boots are highly recommended in wet weather or after a rainy spell.

Where you'll be

The starting point of the walk is where there are a series of meadows that are managed by a Trust on behalf of the townspeople in memory of Angus Buchanan VC. There is a memorial stone to him where more can be learnt about his life. During the walk it may be possible to briefly stop and admire a distant view of Sugarloaf mountain and the lovely surrounding countryside. Towards the end of the walk it is possible to view a ruined farmhouse.
