What you'll do
We will use pan-frying technique to cook 2 delicious pancakes, green onion pancake (Pa-jeon) and flower pancake (Hwa-jeon). You will be able to impress your Korean friends after this cooking class. *Also, these 2 dishes can be made vegan too! Green onion pancake (Pa-jeon) is every Korean's favorite rainy day snack, often paired with unfiltered rice wine (Mak-geol-li). We will learn how to make one with my fail-proof recipe. Flower pancake (Hwa-jeon) dates back to 1000 years ago and it was a way for my ancestors to appreciate the Spring season through decorating rice pancakes with flower petals. Nicely pan-fried and warm flower pancake wonderfully pairs well with tea or coffee. When we are finished cooking, we will gather around and share our delicious pancakes. Also, unfiltered rice wine (Mak-geol-li) is served too.

HI! I am Alice and I am an archaeologist. I used to work at excavation sites in Korea and study the remains excavated from these sites. Also, I have also taught children history and archaeology. My interest in food started from excavation sites. Often at excavation sites, I found burnt grains, shells of nuts, etc. It enabled to imagine what my ancestors used to eat and what they used to cook. At the very same time, I am a big foodie. I spare a lot of my time to 'excavate' delicious food from all over the city. Using my background as an expert in history and archaeology, I will be able to tell you interesting stories about the food we will cook together. Food always taste better when you know more about them. And my food tastes as good as my story because I cook them countless times!
