What you'll do

Explore Downtown for a whiskey history tour! You’ll learn why Southwestern Pennsylvania is considered the birthplace of American Whiskey, what the Whiskey Rebellion in Pittsburgh was all about, and how Prohibition affected the region in the 1920s. Scout out hidden former (as well as existing!) speakeasies around the city, and discover how whiskey has fueled political, labor and social movements throughout the region. Get to experience the revival of craft spirits in Pittsburgh and find out about Wigle’s own history as a local and family-owned business. 3 whiskey samples will make a great finale of this experience.

This tour will be about 2 hours long long, approx. 1.5 miles of walking.

Please note:
a. This is NOT A BAR CRAWL but rather a whiskey history tour with a final tasting.
b. This tour ends in our shop (the tour starting location) where whiskey will be sampled (free unlimited refills plus free drink coupons for the Wigle distillery - only a 20 mins walk from us :-)
d. Face masks can be taken off if a valid vaccination card can be shown. Every participant will have to sign a waiver.

I followed my husband to Pittsburgh seven years ago, and saw the opportunity to reinvent myself. Inspired by Michael's entrepreneurial spirit I decided to offer historical tours through Pittsburgh. Since I earned a Master's Degree in Art and Architectural History, and I used to live in Rome (Italy), Berlin (Germany) as well as New York City (all great places for art + architecture), I though this would be e great fit. So I founded Bike the Burgh Tours first in 2015, and added Walk the Burgh Tours a year and a half later. After two years of doing every tour myself, I found some equally passionate and enthusiastic, local tour guides who love this city and also strive for excellence. We love to show off our city, we love our job, and we love meeting people from all around the world! Come join us while exploring the Burgh!

Where you'll be

We will start at the Convention Center in the Cultural District and walk our way through the Financial District, weaving in and out of small alleyways, and former sites of whiskey making, selling and drinking. The tour would usually end at an original speakeasy and the Wigle Tasting Room in the oldest hotel in town (William Penn Hotel), but due to COVID-19 and its closure we will have the final tasting of local craft whiskey at the starting point

Had a great time on the Whisky Tour. I learned a lot about PA history AND Pittsburgh history. Im from PA so now I can tell everyone why our liquor laws are so ridiculous! I highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to Pittsburgh. Who doesnt like a little alcohol with their historical walking tours? Win!

Really enjoyed the tour! It was a fun history walk through downtown! The actual drinking whiskey parts are at the beginning and the end, but the walking tour in between was fun. Def will check out the other tours!

This experience was wonderful. Learning the history of Pittsburgh and how Whiskey ties into this history was eyeopening and so irronic in todays culture. We went on a Saturday so was able to enjoy our tour ending at the Wigle Whiskey bar. It was a fun way to end the tour and try some unique whiskeys.
