What you'll do
We invite you to come hungry. You will start by going on a short, stroll around the village and hearing about the locals and the fascinating history from before Apartheid until now. Thereafter, you will be welcomed back at Twigs, with a cold beer or soft drink. The hot coals will be ready to start cooking. You are encouraged to grab a pair of tongs and assist me in cooking the meat and vegetables on the braai. This is the perfect opportunity and time to learn about why our Braai Beats the Barbeque. You will experience flavours that are uniquely South African, like Mrs Balls's chutney. Once the meal is ready, we will all sit down together to tuck into a feast of flavours with typical South African tunes. A Braai is all about the conversation that happens around the braaing of the food as well as during the ensuing feast. Dinner will consist of beer bread, boerewors, sosaties, two traditional salads, malva pudding and a boer koffie. The menu does cater for vegetarians and children. Even though you will eat more than you wanted to, you will have to try a traditional dessert and a boer koffie, before heading home. You are welcome to copies of recipes upon request. And then we will end with a vote for Braai versus Barbeque.

You are not South African if you do not love to braai. The word braai evolved from the word braden ('Roast' in Dutch) into braaivleis (Afrikaans for grilled meat) and then into the verb braai which means “to grill”. The word braai forms a proud part of South Africans slang and is used by people of all languages. South Africans treasure traditional South African food. Twigs is set in a history-rich area & surrounded by loyal, local residents. South Africa is a meat-eating nation & we love to braai everything, including vegetables.
