What you'll do
Perhaps you are already familiar with some of the paintings at the Uffizi museum, but would you love to know more about the history of some women represented in these paintings? Women such as Simonetta Vespucci, the diva of Botticelli, or Caterina di Medici, the Florentine little girl that became the Queen of France, or Artemisia, a courageous woman painter during a period dominated mostly by men. These are just some of many examples of women in the history of this museum because of their beauty, courage and intelligence. We will visit one of the most important museums of Italy, and through anecdotes and love stories about painters such as Botticelli, Filippo Lippi, Raffaello, Bronzino we will discover an important part of the History of the Italian Renaissance Art.
Hello, I’m Luiza, born in Brazil, and I would love to share my experiences with you. I moved from Paris to Florence 15 years ago, just after my Master’s degree on History of art, with a thesis dedicated to a very female subject: the symbol of the rose in the medieval art. Living in these two important art cities, I've always felt really excited being surrounded by so much art and history. That's the reason why I decided to become a Florence Tour Guide. It is for me the perfect way to express my love, and knowledge for the art and for this city.
Where you'll be
Our meeting point is in front of the Cafè Rivoire, in Piazza della Signoria. We will walk together to the Uffizi, where we will buy tickets and then enter the Museum. Before the painting gallery, I will introduce you to the architecture of the building, with it’s amazing ceiling painting and corridors decorated with Roman sculptures. Our main focus is the story of the women but we will also visit some of the highlights of the museum.
