What you'll do
Come and gather leaves as we circle around the cauldron. In this afternoon workshop we will wander and gather leaves around the shores of the Puget Sound. Meditating on the season and the nature of slowing down to gather words, intentions and community. Returning to the studio, we will enfold our treasures into paper and silk bundles. As the bundles cook we will explore the various natural dyeing techniques you can continue at home. Both paper and scarves will go home bundled to be unbundled and prints revealed a few days later (3-4). Students can share these online to the rest of the class.
Tea, coffee and other beverages will be offered.
Participants will also go home with their own hand dyed silk scarves and paper.
Tania learned the art of natural dyeing and eco-printing on the banks of the Tay River in Scotland from Master textile teacher India Flint. Dyeing with leaves and nature continues to influence and inspire Tania’s encaustic and textile work. All material will provided and students will leave the class with a small folded and dyed notebook and silk scarf. Class is held at the artist's community studio which is nestled on a hillside among elder Douglas firs and Madronas, with space to work outside and inside as weather permits.
Where you'll be
We will spend approximately a third of our time outdoors and 2/3 in my indoor studio which overlooks the Puget Sound.
