What you'll do

This all day workshop will start off in my outdoor classroom in the woods with a brief history of building with cob all over the world. Next we will tour the many different projects at the farm being built from clay/cob and discuss the different variations used. This will expose students to numerous possibilities for creating with clay and cob. Then students will learn how to test any soil for clay content, and the basic components for making cob (clay, sand, straw, water). Finally, students will participate in mixing the cob with their feet on tarps, and using it to build a cob bench.

Sarah

I'm the owner of Wild Thingz Eco Farm, an off grid 20 acre property in the wilderness mountains just outside of Bakersfield. I'm passionate about building a sustainable future and living harmoniously with nature. I learned about building with cob (clay, sand, straw) 10 years ago in Bulgaria, and have used that knowledge to begin building my farm. I have built numerous projects from earthen floors, to earth ovens, to a cob smokehouse, a cob rocket stove, clay paints, small domes and other projects using the clay and sand from my property.
